The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine - 2026

Director of the Research Institute of Balneology and Medical Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayagul Kairgeldina participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine - 2026, held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China.
The forum was held under the motto "The wisdom of traditional medicine - for the sake of human health" and brought together 81 representatives from 21 countries, including Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, India, Sri Lanka and other countries. The organizers were the People's Government of Jiangxi Province and the SCO Committee on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation.
The participants focused on the further development of traditional medicine and its integration with modern healthcare approaches. In particular, the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in diagnostics, the development of educational programs, the harmonization of professional standards, mutual recognition of qualifications, as well as the expansion of scientific and industrial cooperation between the SCO member states were discussed.
One of the significant results of the forum was the presentation of two international ISO standards in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, the demonstration of modern technological solutions, including robotic systems for moxotherapy and intelligent technologies for processing medicinal raw materials, as well as the launch of the International Alliance for Education in the Field of Traditional Medicine Technologies.
During the visit, the Kazakh delegation held a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of China Resources Jiangzhong, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as the Jiangxi branch of "Longhua" Hospital at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The talks were devoted to the exchange of scientific and practical experience, the development of professional contacts and possible areas of joint work. Following the meetings, practical steps were identified to develop cooperation in the field of traditional medicine and medical rehabilitation, including within the framework of traditional medicine at the branch of the Scientific Research Institute "Astana" Medical and Wellness Complex.
For the Research Institute of Balneology and Medical Rehabilitation, international cooperation is one of the tools for developing modern approaches to spa treatment and restorative medicine. Studying the experience of foreign colleagues makes it possible to adapt effective practices, taking into account the national health system, the scientific base and the natural healing potential of Kazakhstan.
The participation of the institute's representatives in the forum also created additional opportunities for professional dialogue with the SCO countries and the formation of new partnerships in the field of traditional medicine, medical rehabilitation, sanatorium treatment, education and scientific research.
