A subregional meeting on the launch of the “Central Asia Free of Tuberculosis” Initiative was held in Astana.

As part of the 5th Meeting of Health Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States, a subregional meeting was held on the topic: Launch of the “Central Asia Free of Tuberculosis” Initiative. The event marked an important step toward uniting efforts in the fight against tuberculosis at the regional level.
The meeting was attended by Health Ministers of Central Asian countries, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, representatives of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the medical community, students, and representatives of associations and non-governmental organizations.
The event also featured the participation of Sayagul Kairgeldina, Director of the Research Institute of Balneology and Medical Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, highlighting the importance of integrating sanatorium-resort and rehabilitation approaches in the comprehensive fight against tuberculosis.
During the panel discussions, speakers included Akmaral Alnazarova, Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe; and heads of health authorities from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, as well as representatives from China, South Africa, and other countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants signed the Declaration on the Launch of the “Central Asia Free of Tuberculosis” Initiative, reaffirming their commitment to joint efforts to reduce the incidence and eliminate tuberculosis in the region.
