Prevention of lung diseases: why is it important to take care of the respiratory system?
Published by : Еркежан
The respiratory system is one of the most important and vulnerable systems of the body. It provides us with the oxygen necessary for the functioning of all organs and tissues. However, external factors such as air pollution, infections, bad habits and stress make the lungs vulnerable to many diseases.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), respiratory diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide.
The most common ones include:
chronic bronchitis
bronchial asthma
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
pneumonia
post-Covid complications
To maintain lung health and avoid serious complications, it is important to follow simple preventive measures:
1. Regular medical examinations
Preventive examination helps to promptly identify diseases at an early stage, when treatment is most effective. Experts recommend annual fluorography and, if necessary, spiro- and pulse oximetry.
2. Giving up bad habits
Smoking is one of the main causes of chronic lung diseases. Quitting this habit significantly reduces the risk of developing COPD, lung cancer and other pathologies.
3. Keeping the air clean
Avoid staying in places with high levels of pollution. Use humidifiers and air purifiers at home, especially if you live in an urban environment. If possible, spend more time outdoors in environmentally friendly areas.
4. Healthy eating
A diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals strengthens the immune system and supports lung health. Particular attention should be paid to products containing vitamin C, E and omega-3 fatty acids.
5. Physical activity
Regular moderate physical activity, especially exercise in the fresh air, helps improve lung ventilation and increase their functional reserves. An excellent choice would be breathing exercises and walking on a health path.
6. Vaccination and infection prevention
Seasonal flu and pneumococcal vaccinations help protect the respiratory system from serious complications. It is also important to follow measures to prevent SARS and COVID-19, including wearing a mask and maintaining hygiene.
7. Environmental control
If your work involves hazardous substances or dust, be sure to use personal protective equipment.
